Florida wildland fire training opportunities are in high demand among students and professionals alike, however information about these training opportunities is often difficult to come by. This website was started by a graduate student who sought to link training providers together to establish a central source for those in need of training.
FloridaWildlandfireTraining.com is a partner with the Southern Fire Exchange, Student Association for Fire Ecology (SAFE) at the University of Florida (UF), and UF Fire Science Lab. This site was created in 2009 by SAFE member and PhD student David Godwin as an answer to the never ending question of ‘where do I get fire training in Florida?’. If you have questions or comments about this site please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom or email the site developer directly.
FloridaWildlandfireTraining.com is a not-for-profit website hosted and developed entirely as a public service by David Godwin (drg2814@ufl.edu). For more information about David visit his personal website.

This website rocks! Thanks David and SAFE for making this a reality!
This is an amazing resource! You should let SAFE national know about this- other chapters could use it as a model.

Very informative and well-designed!
I am hoping that someone can verify the exact 2011 dates of FL’s “Prescribed Fire Awareness Week.”
Hi Chris, thanks for the comment! I’ve just done some research on your question and come up with the best answer I can: March 6-12, 2011 (according to someone at the Division of Forestry). This may change due to this being an election year and the rotation of the Governor and Cabinet posts, but for right now that’s the best date I can come up with and the current dates barring a political resolution to change them.
With regards to the Rx Fire Awareness Week in Florida- from here onwards it will always start after the third weekend in January. The change was made so that overlap with wildfire season and rx season would be minimized.
Are there any courses scheduled for 2011? I am very interested in the s-130 or s-190?? Please advise
Hi Gordy,
I just checked with one of my contacts at UF who normally offers S-130 / S-190 during the summer months. He said that due to budget cuts they’re unable to offer the courses this summer. Right now DOF is not listing any either (although summer is typically a busy time for them and their training offerings tend to slow down). I will keep looking and let you know if I find anything. If you can wait, the Great Florida Fire School in November usually offers S-130 / S-190. -David
